An article published by Business Insider newspaper said today that flights take longer than it has been for 40 or 50 years.

The newspaper reported that the flight to fly from New York to Houston used to take about two hours and 37 minutes in 1973, but today they spend extra hours in the same flight.

The paper asked: What if the reason for that despite the technological advances that we have seen since then ?, said a very simple answer: The reason lies in the cost of fuel.

The airlines can save millions of dollars annually by slowing the speed of the flight of little planes, and as the fuel bills constitute the bulk of the operating costs of airlines, a little slow would be a huge impact on budgets.

Fuel costs and stand behind all the measures taken by the airlines in recent years, which, from the beginning to charge extra for checked baggage, through reduced food service and supplies on board.

These measures aim to ease the load the plane and then increase flight efficiency.

According to the agency "Reuters" arrived aircraft fuel consumption to peak in 2005, to drop thereafter by 15% thanks to these measures in part.

Airlines also developed a schedule tables to include the delay is not expected and the time spent by the plane on the runway of the aircraft before takeoff or after landing, which reinforced the sense that the flights have become take longer than it was previously.
