52 hotel construction projects are planned in Morocco, 22 of which will be completed in 2017, indicates a new study from Index North Africa.

According to a recent study carried out by Index North Africa, 52 new hotels will be built by 2020, and 22 of them will be operational in 2017.

According to the Moroccan French-language news website, H24Info, Samantha Kane-Macdonald, the director of the event that will take place in Casablanca between December 5 and 7, stated that the hotel construction projects show that “Morocco is preparing to compete with the main tourist destinations of the world.”

As many as 3171 five-star rooms and suites will be added to Morocco’s bed capacity with the 22 hotels that will be constructed by the end of next year. This is the first phase in Morocco’s plan that seeks to attract 20 million tourists by 2020.

The soon-to-be-built hotels will feature renovated Tazi Palace Hotel in Tangier, hotels Oberoi, Park Hyatt, Grace Marrakech and Shaza Marrakech, as well as the Marriott Hotel in Rabat.

The substantial investment allocated in these projects represents “enormous room for operation in local construction and in architecture and interiors,” explained Kane-Macdonald.

Morocco currently ranks 3rd in the Middle East and North Africa in terms of hotel construction projects. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia hold the first two ranks, respectively.
