5 places to watch the Northern Lights in USA

Charming and captivating - these are just some of the words people used to describe the amazing twilight, also known as the Northern Lights. Sun-charged particles entering the earth's atmosphere create vibrant colors - green, blue, purple, red, pink and yellow - that shine and rotate in the night sky. Although the chances of seeing these lights increase dramatically as you head north, you will not have to travel to the North Pole. You can see it in several destinations throughout the United States.

5 places to watch the Northern Lights in America

1- Denali National Park, Alaska
With about 2.5 million hectares of pristine wilderness, Alaska's Denali National Park and National Park, about 383 km north of Anchorage, is a favorite for campers and hikers because of its wide open spaces, beautiful mountain prospects and abundant wildlife. The park is also one of the best places in the United States to see the northern lights, because of the lack of light pollution. Autumn is the best season to get the clearest view of arterial twilight. You may even see the lights early in the second week in August.

From Fairbanks, less than 200 kilometers northeast of the park, you can also see some spectacular views, thanks to its location in the Twilight Oval region, an area around the North Pole where twilight often occurs.

2. Idaho Panhandle National Forest, Idaho
Idaho may not be the first place to think of northern lights, but the sights around Lake Brest and the Idaho Panhandle National Lake are fantastic. During the winter, these sites, located about 80 km south of the Canadian border and 150 kilometers north-east of Spokane, Washington, provide a dark and clear sky ideal for watching the Northern Lights. Twilight is often reflected off the lake, providing a special view of the mirror to display natural light. Photographers flock to Lake Brest to make pictures of the northern lights on a mountain backdrop.

3. Arostock National Wildlife Refuge, Maine
Located on the border between the United States and Canada, about 250 kilometers north of Bangor in Maine, a low-density area, so there is no light pollution to block your Twilight test. Although the northern lights are more common near the Arctic, this province is located far enough north for the appearance of the Aurora. Set up a camp in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which houses more than 2,100 hectares of wetlands, forests and pastures that are home to such creatures as the moss and black bears. Pure and clear winter nights are the most common for seeing the Aurora in the evening. However, it is possible to see this in the spring and fall, when the activity of attractive storms is the strongest.

4. Cook County, Minnesota
Cook County - at the northeastern tip of Minnesota along the shores of Lake Superior, about 400 km northeast of Minneapolis - offers plenty of outdoor space to lie down and watch the lights. This area is also home to the longest mountain peaks and the highest falls on the island of Minnesota, all of which provide a wonderful backdrop for multicolored skies. Local residents move to Mount Auberg in the Upper National Forest to enjoy views of the Aurora, which lights Lake Superior, Lake Oberg and Mount Moss. Thanks to the northern location of Cook County and the dark sky, twilight is often easy to see between late autumn and early spring.

5. Upper Michigan Peninsula
The Upper Michigan Peninsula is one of the northern parts of the United States of America and extends to Lake Superior, about 410 km from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Aurora sights are very common in the area, with many residents able to pick up the lights from their yards. To get the best chance to grab the lights, head to Marquette, the main port on Lake Superior, or the Qaynau Peninsula, the far north of the state. On a clear night, the northern lights reflect the largest lake in North America, creating an amazing spectacle.
