The stunning Hassan II mosque is a symbol on the Casablanca - Morocco

The stunning Hassan II mosque is a symbol on the Casablanca skyline of the indelible role of religion in society. Through it, the late King Hassan II gave the city of Casablanca a much needed spiritual touchstone after decades of growth in population and business. Today, as we celebrate International Religious Freedom Day, the U.S. Mission remembers Morocco's rich history of religious tolerance, including that of King Hassan II’s father, King Mohammed V, whose legacy includes protecting Jewish Moroccans during WWII. You can learn more about this history at the exhibit "Of Voice and Stone" now open Musée de la Fondation Abderrahman Slaoui  in Casablanca.
