A curious Colorado bear strikes a pose for 400 selfies on a wildlife camera

Apparently, other species than humans take selfies.

Nine of the cameras were set up by the city's Open Space and Mountain Parks department to track and learn about local wildlife species while keeping people out of sensitive habitats. About 400 of the 580 images that had been taken by one of the cameras were all of the same bear.

A spokesperson for Open Space and Mountain Parks stated in a statement, "These pictures made us laugh, and we thought others would too."

According to officials, the cameras, which are activated by an animal stepping in front of them, are invisible to the majority of animals. They catch animals going about their business, such as deer, beavers, and less curious black bears. However, it enthralled this bear.

The spokesperson stated, "In this instance, a bear took a special interest in one of our wildlife cameras and took the opportunity to capture hundreds of'selfies.'"

Unintentional but amusing use of the cameras are photoshoots. They are being used by the city to map wildlife areas, "learn more about how local species use the landscape around us," and recommend natural area protections.
