Do you know the light bulb that never goes out in California?
In the city of Livermore in the US state of California, there is a lamp that has been operating since 1901 and has not been extinguished for even a single hour in 120 years!!
It was assumed that all lamps would work with the same quality before the lamp manufacturers met in 1924 in Geneva and agreed to manufacture lamps that would not last long and whose lifespan would not exceed 10,000 hours in order to increase lamp consumption and thus their sales and profits.
A kind of federation of lamp manufacturers was formed that included every startup company and forced standards in the manufacture of lamps that did not last long.
In 1988, a Pakistani startup company in Karachi tried to break the agreement and manufacture lamps that would last more than 500,000 hours.
Western lamp companies, through their agents, flooded the Pakistani market with cheap lamps and launched a smear campaign in the local newspapers against him, claiming that his lamps cause cancer. The matter ended with the factory being closed and its owner bankrupting and imprisoning him.
There is a documentary called The Light Club Conspiracy that explains the working system of this union.
