The Dancing plant . Desmodium gyrans

Did you know that there is a plant called the dancing plant, or Desmodium gyrans, that visibly moves when it hears music or even claps around it?

Its leaves vibrate and move as if it were actually dancing! Scientists are still studying why it reacts to sound and movement in this strange way.

The Dancing Plant: Desmodium gyrans

Have you heard of the incredible "Dancing Plant"? A rare and unusual sensitive plant!

One of the rare plants capable of such movements! Codariocalyx motorius (or Desmodium gyrans) is a tropical Asian species of the Fabaceae family.

This incredible sensitive plant is known for its relatively rapid lateral leaf movement, perfectly perceptible to the naked eye! In fact, in 1880 in his book "The Power of Movement in Plants", Charles Darwin described it quite glowingly. This movement, quite unusual in the plant kingdom, is actually a strategy aimed at maximizing light by following the sun.

Each leaf is equipped with a hinge that allows it to move to receive as much light as possible. To optimize its movement, each large leaf has two small leaflets at its base. These continually move along an elliptical path to assess the intensity of the sunlight, which then allows the plant to direct the large leaf to the area receiving the greatest light intensity.
