The First Pizza Delivery in History And the First Deliverer
It Was a Royal Affair In 1889
Raffaele Esposito, the famous Neapolitan pizza maker, made history when he was asked to deliver a pizza to Queen Margherita of Savoy, the wife of the Queen of Italy. The Queen had recently visited Naples.
To honor her, Esposito created a pizza with ingredients that reflected the colors of the Italian flag: tomato (red), mozzarella (white), and basil (green). This pizza, later known as Pizza Margherita, became a prominent symbol of Italian cuisine.
This royal delivery is considered the first known instance of a pizza delivery in history, marking a significant moment in the history of pizza and contributing to the global popularity of this beloved dish.
Pizza Margherita remains one of the most popular varieties today, beloved for its simple, fresh ingredients that have captured the hearts of food lovers around the world.
