Tom Anderson: The Face of MySpace and His Billion-Dollar Legacy
This man, Tom Anderson, known as "Millionaire Tom," founded the social networking site MySpace.
He later sold it in 2005 for $580 million because he decided to spend the rest of his life enjoying his passions of travel and photography.
He didn't develop or expand it, but spent the rest of his life working to maximize his wealth. Instead, he wanted to live a life of relaxation and luxury, free from stress.
But there was another person who rose to stardom thanks to this platform: Tom, who was literally the first friend we all became when we signed up for the social networking site. His smiling face appeared on every user's page, making his face almost as popular as the MySpace logo itself 21 years later.
Despite being one of the most recognizable faces and the creator of one of the world's most popular social networking sites, Tom isn't as famous these days as he once was when he was... literally everyone's friend. In fact, since his split from the company he helped build from scratch, he has completely disappeared from the public eye.
On May 27, 2024, the @DivineManhood account posted a series of tweets and videos detailing the story of Tom Anderson and his alleged disappearance from public life after selling his company, MySpace.
The first tweet in the series has garnered over 25 million views as of this writing. It read: "This is Tom Anderson. At the age of 35, he sold MySpace for $580 million. Then he mysteriously disappeared. Here's his story." The tweets then detailed Anderson's retirement from corporate America and his seemingly "completely silent" life after his retirement.
