Dolphins That Talk to Humans! Google Develops 'Dolphin Gemma': The First AI to Translate Dolphin Language!

In April 2025, Google announced a bizarre project: DolphinGemma – an AI model trained on 40 years' worth of dolphin sound recordings!

The Idea: To learn how dolphins communicating, and then respond.

The project used recordings of Atlantic dolphins. The AI ​​was trained on the sounds the dolphins make: whistles, clicks, and rattles. A device called CHAT (short for "Marine Mammal Enhanced Hearing") was then built.

Divers dived into the water with CHAT and played AI-generated sounds. The result? The dolphins began repeating the artificial sounds! Were they communicating with humans? Scientists aren't sure. Perhaps they were simply repeating the sounds in the hope of receiving a fish reward!
