"Lost in the Shadows: The Haunting Horror of Europe's Most Chilling 1970s Paranormal Mystery!"
For those who enjoy the paranormal mixed with horror, this is one of the most famous documented stories that was the talk of all of Europe in the 1970s. So pay close attention, and let's begin, because this story is strange and terrifying, and you'll probably find it fascinating:
On August 23, 1971, in the village of Belmes in the city of Cordoba, Spain, Mrs. Maria was doing some kitchen work as usual. While cutting a tomato, one fell to the floor. As she reached for it, she saw something strange on the floor tiles that would change her life and the lives of her family forever.
Maria saw what appeared to be a stain on the floor that she had never seen before. Like any housewife obsessed with keeping her kitchen clean, she grabbed a wet cloth and began trying to remove the stain. But strangely, the closer she got to the stain on the tiles, the more she realized that it wasn't dirt or grime. She began to understand more when the stain turned out to be a woman's face, imprinted on the tiles as if someone had drawn it with precision.
The woman was terrified. She became anxious and told herself it was definitely the onion's strong effect. She started gathering various cleaning products and desperately trying to remove the face from the tiles, but the face only became clearer, as if challenging her. When she was at her wit's end, she called for her husband, Mr. Juan, and her violent teenage son. For hours, they tried in vain to remove the face that was causing them so much anxiety from the tiles, but to no avail.
The son, fed up, grabbed an axe and began smashing the tile with the face until he removed it from the floor. He then went to Ramos Tiles and Sanitary Ware and bought a replacement tile, replacing the old one, thinking he had solved the problem. But this was just the beginning of a series of strange problems and events.
About a month later, Mr. Juan was in the kitchen making a cup of hibiscus tea to cool off in the heat. When his eyes fell on the new tile, he saw another face in the same spot. And it wasn't just in the kitchen; after that, the disturbing human faces began appearing in several other places on the floor. The kitchen...
What terrified them greatly was that faces appeared one after another on every floor of the entire house. Even more alarming was their appearance on the floor of Mr. Juan's bedroom, foreshadowing a difficult period ahead for him regarding his marital duties, as if someone were watching him from above the room's tiles. All their attempts to remove the faces or discover their source failed, and the family's life turned into a living hell.
The afflicted family remained silent, watching the faces that filled the house. What made matters worse was that the faces began to disappear from one place and reappear in another without explanation. Even more disturbing was that the faces themselves would change in the same location. At night, they would be a bearded man, and in the morning, they would be a child or a girl, and so on.
As time passed, the family sought help from neighbors, blacksmiths, and painters to solve the mystery of the faces. However, they noticed that the faces' expressions grew increasingly sad and gloomy with each attempt to remove them, then softened as soon as they stopped trying. The phenomenon began to spread, and with each failed attempt to remove them... The news was spreading...
As a result of the panic and numerous reports from concerned neighbors, the authorities learned of the matter. Initially, they suspected Uncle Juan and his family were simply playing mind games for fame and attention. They dispatched a team of investigators to the house, joined by two paranormal researchers, Professor Germain and his colleague Professor Hans Bender (there is indeed a branch of science called that), along with a forensic expert.
Upon arriving at the house, they conducted numerous tests, including X-rays, ultraviolet and infrared images (radio, of course), and chemical tests to determine if the source was a difficult-to-remove paint, such as nitrate or even silver paint. All the tests came back negative, clearing Uncle Juan and his family of any wrongdoing. The mystery, however, became even more complex and terrifying... especially when you learn what follows...
The story became the talk of newspapers and radio, attracting a group of scientists from all over Europe who began a new type of investigation... The tests involved placing microphones throughout the house—microscopes that pick up sounds inaudible to the human ear. To their surprise, they heard many voices, mostly rasping, with only a few clear sounds. They heard the voices of children, women, and men—some screaming, some crying, some speaking Spanish. With difficulty, they picked up the terrified voice of a crying child, and from the depths of her sobs, they heard the following:
"Hell starts here."
"She's still buried."
"Maria, I want to go."
"They're all around me... they're all here."
"They're all dead."
"Mommy!"
At this point, one of the more astute investigators suggested digging under the floorboards of the house to find a satisfactory explanation. They dug three meters deep, and to their shock, they discovered dozens of bodies. The Decomposing House...
The bodies of children, women, and men, but not just any bodies... Most of them had been murdered. Some were stabbed, some were decapitated, and some bore signs of torture on their remains. After extensive research into the origin of these bodies, it was discovered that the land on which the house stood was a cemetery built in the 13th century. No one knows why these people died or the reason for the gruesome manner in which they perished.
After the bodies were exhumed and properly buried in the city cemetery, the faces ceased to appear. Maria and her husband continued to live in the house until her death in 2004. The house became a tourist attraction, drawing many visitors who came to see what was once one of the most haunted houses in Europe. To this day, the house still stands, but no one dares to live there because of its infamous reputation.
The story was made into a film in 1997 called "99.9," and a television program episode was also based on it. The famous "unexplained mysterious"...
This was one of the documented strange stories that occurred in the seventies and which earned its place among paranormal stories.
