King Khafra, the second pyramids of the famous Giza Plateau, was built of poor quality of small limestone blocks. The pyramid seems to the beholders that it is larger than the Great Pyramid of Khufu, because it was built on a height that is about ten meters or thirty-three feet from the surface on which the pyramid of King Khufu was built.
The original height of the pyramid was about 143.5 meters or 470.7 feet, now it is 136.5 meters or 447.7 feet. Each side of the square, which forms the base of the pyramid, is about 215.25 meters or 706.02 feet and the four sides with the base are 53.10 degrees.
The original layout of the pyramid was to cut the burial chamber underground and build the pyramid above it. However, the burial chamber was moved to the south under the pyramid.
The pyramid has two entrances and two descending roads on the north side, one leading to the burial chamber. The other hole is higher than the first about sixteen meters or fifty-two feet and a half.
The top of the pyramid still retains its silhouette of polished white stone. The rest of the pyramid has been eroded due to the poor quality of the stones used in the construction, although some of the lower parts of the pyramid still retain its granite. The top of the pyramid is missing and the coffin of Khafre made of gray granite and half covered with thick layer that covered the floor of the room.
The Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Affairs opened on Sunday, 14 October 2012, the pyramid of Khafre, one of the three major pyramids of Giza, and 6 archaeological tombs in front of tourists after the completion of the restoration.
