Rzlbd architects unveiled a proposal to design a new mosque in Dubai .
Instead of becoming an addition to the master plan of the Creek, the design intends to give the impression that it has always been there.
There are a few elements on the surface that announce the proposed intervention, most notably the elegant copper minaret, which, along with the new Burj Dubai, is the west-east axis of the master plan.
The design proposed by the architects leaves the majority of the site as an open public space, and the horizontal alignment of this platform coincides with the vertical tower of the iconic creek.
In order to protect the sanctities and the tranquility of the prayer hall, all activities are absorbed underground. The plan also includes a round reflection pond adjacent to the kiss and declares the main space of worship beneath it, according to the designboom site.
The structure protects the components of the building, creates a thermal mass to mitigate the effect of the large daytime variation in the external temperature while covering the prayer hall with the reflection pond, and reduces heat gain from the sun in the arid environment.
In order to create a sense of elegance and spiritual importance, the mosque is seen as a structure that focuses on building as an entity, with an atmosphere of continuity, quality and contextual belonging.
The materials used in the project are the white concrete cast in situ. Using this material, the architects add to the concept of creating an integrated design in the port area and the island of Khor and appears as if it has been in the area for a long time.
