"The Holy City of Karal" or simply "Karal", is an archaeological site where the remains of the main city of the Karal civilization are located.
It is located in Peru in the Sup Valley, near the present-day town of Carral, 182 kilometers north of Lima, 23 kilometers from the coast and 350 meters above sea level.
It dates back 5,000 years and is considered the oldest city in the Americas and one of the oldest in the world.
No other site has been found with such a diversity of monumental or ceremonial buildings and various administrative functions in the early Americas as Carral. It has been declared a site of human cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The Caral culture developed between 3000 and 1800 B.C. In America, it is the oldest pre-Hispanic civilization, having developed 1500 years before the Olmec civilization, another complex society in Mesoamerica.
The city of Caral in Peru is proud of its ancient huge pyramidal structures. The more I saw such civilizations, the more questions filled my head: Who are they, where did they come from? The idea of the pyramids is a very confusing idea. Where did these peoples come up with that idea similar to their peers in the ancient world, especially since they were not in contact with the civilizations of that world? Many and many questions and the answer remains a mystery for the days to reveal.
