Palmanova, a fortified city planned by the Venetians during the Renaissance in 1593, also known as the "starry city" due to its polygonal nine-point star shape, is located in the province of Udine in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy. The use of the nine-pointed star, designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, was the latest military innovation of the era, and between the points of the star appeared city walls so that the points could defend one another, a moat surrounding the city and three large fortified entrance gates. The basic idea that Palmanova architects imbued is that beauty enhances the well-being of society, all methods have been calibrated, and all parts of the planning are determined to be subject to their raison d'être.
