It consists of nine circles where the soul is tortured forever, in each circle the soul is punished for a specific sin according to Dante's Hell:

The first circle / closest to heaven

The second circle / lust

The third circle / gluttony

The fourth circle / avarice

The fifth circle / anger

The sixth circle / heresy

The seventh circle / violence

The eighth circle / fraud
