8 Golden Tips to Avoid Illness During the Summer
Summer is known for its widespread spread of illnesses, viruses, and infections, even though it offers an escape from daily routines and the opportunity to enjoy vacations and travel.
In a report by the British newspaper The Independent, experts offered eight tips to prevent illness and stay healthy during the summer.
1.Stay Hydrated
Dr. Sean Tang, a general practitioner at Pall Mall Medical Center, recommends staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and avoiding strenuous activities during the hottest hours, between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
2.Eat cooked foods and bottled water.
Cases of food poisoning increase during the summer. Dr. Tang says that the hot weather and summer picnics provide an ideal environment for bacterial growth, especially when food is not cooked or stored properly.
3.Continue Vaccinations
Although COVID-19 variants are no longer a significant threat, summer holidays and gatherings increase the risk of infection.
4.Healthy Travel Bag
Doctors recommend carrying a foldable fan, rehydration salts, a cooling spray, and hand sanitizer in your travel bag.
5.Maintain Hand Hygiene
Dr. Tang stresses the importance of regular and proper hand washing to prevent COVID-19 infection, food poisoning, and stomach infections.
6.Prevent Mosquito Diseases
The report indicated that the risk of mosquito-borne transmission remains high, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.
Doctors recommend using insect repellent and wearing clothing that covers most of the body, especially at sunset and dawn.
7.Use Sunscreen Regularly
Tang warned that the desire for a tanned complexion could put the skin at risk. He emphasized that sunburn may appear temporary, but it accumulates over time and increases the risk of skin cancer. He advised using sunscreen and reapplying it every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
He also recommended taking a cool shower, using moisturizers, and drinking plenty of water if sunburned.
8.Adjust your sleep schedule
Tang recommends adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before your trip to help your body adjust and avoid digestive problems and fatigue caused by sleep disturbances.
