Government employees who were reviewing Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implant have just been fired Several FDA employees responsible for reviewing Elon Musk’s brain implant company, Neuralink, were abruptly fired over the weekend. According to sources, about 20 employees from the FDA’s Office of Neurological and Somatic Devices
Some of whom were directly involved in evaluating Neuralink’s clinical trial applications were fired.
The termination letters cited performance reasons, even though the employees had no issues with their previous performance and had received top ratings just weeks ago. Neuralink, which is currently testing a brain implant designed to help paralyzed individuals control digital devices with just their thoughts, recently received FDA approval to accelerate development. The agency, the White House, and Musk have yet to comment on the firings.
Meanwhile, Musk, who invested heavily in former President Trump’s reelection efforts, continues to push for broad cost-cutting measures across the government agencies that regulate his businesses, including Tesla and SpaceX.
The sources said they do not believe the employees were specifically targeted because of their work on Neuralink’s applications, but Musk is heavily invested in cutting federal regulations, and the cuts would benefit many of his companies. Experts say that even if these specific individuals were not targeted because of their work at Musk’s companies, all parties overseeing the cuts knew that Musk and his companies would benefit.
