The Symphony of Healing: How Beethoven's 5th Battled Cancer Cells
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 destroyed 20% of cancer cells in lab tests:
Scientists at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are exploring whether music could play a role in cancer treatment. The team, led by Dr. Marcia Alves Marques Capella, exposed cultures of healthy and cancerous cells to different types of music.
Remarkably, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 destroyed around 20% of cancer cells in just a few days, while leaving healthy cells unaffected. A similar effect was observed with György Ligeti's "Atmosphères," although Mozart's "Two Piano Sonatas" showed no significant effect.
The exact mechanism behind these effects is still unknown, but the researchers speculate that rhythm, frequency or intensity could be key factors.
Further experiments are planned to reveal more about this intriguing phenomenon. Although we are far from replacing chemotherapy with an orchestra Symphony, but this study adds to the growing evidence that music has real biological effects on the body.
