This is a photo of the last Moroccan Atlas lion
The photo, taken in 1925, shows the last wild Barbary lion before it became extinct. It was taken by French photographer Marcelin Flandrin while on a flight between Casablanca and Dakar.
The Barbary lion, also known as the Moroccan Atlas lion, was native to Morocco in the Atlas Mountains. Once found in the Atlas Mountains and surrounding areas, this lion species faced severe decline due to overhunting and habitat destruction.
By the mid-20th century, the Barbary lion was considered extinct in the wild.
