Heavy Snowfall in Kamchatka Buries Cities

While heavy snowfall is not uncommon in Kamchatka, the unusual intensity of the storms has paralyzed transportation in the region's largest cities. Snowdrifts have reached heights of three meters, and sometimes even more.

The Moscow Times reported that a powerful winter storm struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, burying cities under thick layers of snow, bringing transportation to a standstill, and killing at least two people.

One video circulating online shows children sliding down a massive snowdrift in a Kamchatka city. Another video shows several buildings buried under snow up to the fourth story.
