Nightmare in Nice: The Shocking Bank Heist You Won't Believe!

While the city of Nice slept peacefully, a thief sat inside the vault of one of the largest banks, eating and opening safety deposit boxes as if he were in his own home!

In 1976, Frenchman Albert Spaggiari devised a daring plan to rob Société Générale bank. He didn't start through the main entrance, but rather through the city's sewer system.

He and his team spent months digging a tunnel nearly 8 meters long, equipping it with a ventilation system, welding equipment, and specialized tools until they reached the vault without arousing any suspicion.

Over the weekend, the gang lived inside the vault for about 48 hours, bringing food, wine, and even a camera, while they calmly opened hundreds of safety deposit boxes. Upon completing the operation, Spaggiari left a message on the safe wall that became one of the most famous phrases in the history of crime: "Sans a rmes, ni h aine, ni v iolence," meaning "No weapons, no hatred, no violence."

After his later arrest, he surprised everyone in the courtroom by jumping from a second-story window into a waiting car. He successfully escaped and remained a fugitive until his death in 1989. This heist remains one of the most daring and complex in history, not only because of the value of the stolen goods but also because of the incredible engineering involved.
