The Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland is home to a unique underground treatment ..
Some patients descend more than 100 meters underground...not for mining, but for treatment in Poland?
In southern Poland lies the Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the oldest salt mines in the world, dating back to the 13th century. At a depth of 135 meters, a clinic utilizes subterraneotherapy to help some patients with asthma and respiratory illnesses.
The mine's air is characterized by its purity and stability, with low levels of dust and allergens, in addition to the presence of salt particles in the surrounding environment.
Inside the tunnels, patients participate in breathing exercises and physiotherapy within chambers carved from natural salt, in a calm atmosphere with constant temperature and humidity.
Studies indicate that this type of therapy may help some patients improve lung function and reduce the symptoms of certain respiratory diseases, but it is not a substitute for conventional medical treatment. It is one of the rarest places where history, nature, and medicine converge in a truly unique experience.
