It could have swallowed its own ships and looked like a stocky version of a great white shark, although its shape might have been similar to a basking shark or a sand tiger shark. As one of the largest and most powerful predators that ever lived; The fossil remains of megalodon indicate that this giant shark reached a length of 18 meters (59 ft).. and the bite force of its large jaws could reach from 108,514 to 182,201 N (11,065 to 18,579 kg; 24,395 to 40,960 lb). Its teeth were thick and sturdy, built for grabbing prey and breaking bones.

Megalodon may have had a profound influence on the structure of marine societies, and the fossil record indicates that it had a cosmopolitan distribution. It may have targeted large prey such as whales, pinnipeds and sea turtles. The young inhabited the warm coastal waters, where they fed on fish and small whales. Unlike the great white shark, which attacks prey from its smooth underside, megalodon may have used its powerful jaws to pierce the chest cavity and puncture the heart and lungs of its prey.
